hoping that either they get everyone out of the Astrodome OR the
Astrodome doesn't leak, or both!
Haven't you been paying attention for the last few weeks?
OK, apparently I stopped paying attention long about last Thursday or
so. (The reports of moving people OUT of the Astrodome are dated Friday.)
And I'm sure a LOT of the Katrina evacuees in Houston are going to want
to move further inland if Rita's projected path tomorrow or Thursday has
it hitting the Houston area.
One of the cities Houston is supposed to evacuate to, according to the
state emergency plan, is Austin, with temporary shelters to be set up in
schools, etc. So I've been hearing about that.
The Austin Convention Center was down to 530 Katrina evacuees yesterday,
and they're trying to get them into more permanent quarters (at least
until New Orleans can reasonably open again) as soon as is reasonably
possible. I haven't actually heard much lately about Katrina evacuees
except in terms of Austin impact. And I've been too busy since Friday
to read the front page of the newspaper....
