The thought just occurred that, as Pat Robertson is claiming the retirement of Sandra O'Connor from the Supreme Court as being an answer to a prayer he did a couple of years back (based, surely, on how improbable it is that an octogenarian might want to retire), there may be certain factions of people now who are seeing this as an answer to their prayers, or at least an "uppity b*tch" getting what she deserved.

I really don't like imagining a society that tolerates such individuals in its midst, but it's dishearteningly clear that the US is such a society. Maybe because there haven't been enough cries of "shame on you" from the right places.
