How about James 2:17-26?
Permit me to paraphrase James 2:17:, "Faith that does nothing, does nothing." Faith comes to life in the action it engenders in me.
It seem a world away from "The Lord helps those who help themselves." In fact, it's quite the opposite: "The Lord helps those who help others," is more like it.
