Gary, et al,
Many Democrats also seem to be entering this theological debate - after all it seems to be working for Republicans, just using as their vision the more compassionate parts of the Bible and asking if their opponents rhetoric matches their deeds.
It is true that desperate people who feel that they are losing will attempt to imitate those who are beating them -- a kind of "beat them at their own game" mentality. The unfortunate fact is that too often, it is the *tactics* that are imitated, not the *strategy*.
I don't think that there is much to be gained by the Dems by trying to be "the other white meat." I think that the Reps are winning not by spouting scripture, but by choosing language -- often cribbed from the Bible -- that resonates in a good way with people and forces the Dems to appear to be nothing short of evil.
If the Dems are going to emulate anything from the Reps, I'd rather it was their disciplined use of language to own the high moral ground, but implicitly.
Praying humbly,
Dave
