I was unable to find anything in a brief search of
PubMed WRT urine consumption and beneficial effects
(or ill effects); I think that if one is healthy (no
active infections, no heavy metal or
water-soluble-toxin poisoning, no gout etc.) then it
doesn't hurt to ingest a glassful of one's mid-stream
urine...
But Eeuuuuw!!!! what a yuck factor! Think I'd _much_
rather get my vitamins from carrots and spinach and
tofu etc. But maybe some enterprising person could
make a fortune selling American urine, as we have 'the
most expensive urine in the world' WRT supplemental
nutrients -- all those excess vitamins that the body
cannot store (such as vitamin C and the Bs) just get
whizzed away...
One of the 'pro' sites pointed out that urokinase,
used to break up blood clots, is concentrated from
urine, but failed to point out that it is
therapeutically useful only when administered
intravenously. <snort>
OTOH, if I were stranded on a desert isle and had a
nasty skin gash, I'd probably feel more safe using my
urine to wash it out, rather than stagnant puddle
water with unknown quantities of wee beasties
infesting it... ;P
