I think (and I believe that JDG thinks) that he was quoting an article that
was interesting, but too pessimistic for the Democrats.  The article also
give perpetual defeat as only a possible outcome, if the Democrats don't
rethink their emphasis.  Economically, Hispanics should favor the
Democrats.  But, they are social conservatives.  If the Democrats keep
leading with their chin, and let social conservative issues dominate, then
they will continue to see the Hispanic vote slip from them.  So, its not a
prediction of defeat, but a call for Democrats to retool.  With JDG's
addition, I interpreted it as "the alternatives are not as bleak as this
article indicates, but the idea of retooling is still
interesting...particularly with regard to the mixed feelings of Hispanics
with regard to Democrats and Republicans.
