I see I've completely managed to confuse both of you. 
It is almost certainly true that if there was
mandatory voting in the US it would create a small
advantage for the Democratic Party.  My point was that
there is no empirical evidence for the suggestion -
which is often made - that a policy that is
significantly to the left of the modern Democratic
Party has any significant support among nonvoters. 
There is simply no evidence for such a belief,
although many people make that claim.
