This strikes a chord.  I got another Robert Silverberg book out 
of the library a few years back, _Gilgamesh the King_.  But 
after thumbing through it, it seemed to be pretty much the 
_Gilgamesh_ story, fleshed out.  So back it went, unread...

I similar thing happened with _Nightfall_ a few years back.
I read the novel, and found it did not have much more content
than the eponymous short story.  So what was the point?
