Some people say that anyone who murders innocent people without warning is by definition a coward because he is too cowardly to give his victims a fair chance.

In any case, the guys firing the missiles from however far away are obviously doing so under orders. If they were ordered to engage the enemy in single combat using claymores, they'd do that, too (assuming they were trained in the use of claymores, and assuming the enemy wouldn't simply shoot them).
God knows, if Osama Bin Laden had nukes, he'd quite happily destroy as many American cities as he could from the safety of whatever squalid cave in eastern Afghanistan or western Pakistan he's hiding in.
