I was looking at Locus on-line (http://www.locusmag.com/2004/Reviews/02Horton_1953Best.html) the other day and noticed an article by Rich Horton on Retro Hugos.
He mentions that the Retros are "controversial" because most voters lack the experience with older works and knowledge of the authors to vote objectively (that a Hugo vote is a subjective vote is another arguement). I agree to a point. This year we'll be voting for 1953 retro Hugos. I'm 53. The point to which I agree is that I'm sure I don't have the knowledge to nominate works for the Retros. However, once a list is presented, voting is easy because I can read the books (unless the work is out of print). And yes, I believe one should read a nominee before voting). Mr. Horton on to say that, despite the problems, the Retros are "fun." Interesting article. Anyway, thoughts . . . Retros good or bad. George A P.S. I recently made my reservations at the Marriott for NOREASCON. Anyone going? _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
