It just seemed silly to me. I think that is just a secondary effect that comes from not being able to suspend belief. Some books just aren't going to work for everyone. > > > >> The Shining (which was very good up until > >> everything blew up, IMO) are a few examples. > > > > The Shining was ruined by Kubrik and Nicholson. > > Good movie, but it ruined any reading of the book. > > > I read the book first - on my honeymoon in fact. > > > and the Stand was too, but I knew half way in > > that everything was going to blow up. > > > > But everything didn't blow up, just Las Vegas. The Gunslinger didn't exactly float my boat but the series overall is really good. > > What's he written in the last five years or so that's good? Everything's Eventual is a collection with a story I really like, "L.T.'s Theory of Pets". Black House (with Peter Straub) is a Dark Tower Mythos book and is quite good. Hearts in Atlantis is peripheral to The Dark Tower and is decently good, but more in the Stand By Me sense than your typical King horror story. My favorite of the last few years is Dreamcatcher. It's a horrific novel of alien invasion with a unique plot device in the form of someone named Dudduits. It almost broke my heart but on the other hand, who wouldn't like a book that contains evil entities like "shit weasels". Thoroughly wicked! xponent Spores Maru rob _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
