Why does the richest, most powerful, most privileged society in the history of mankind object so vehemently to investing in the infrastructure that sustains them?
Why, rather than insisting on a smaller government, don't we insist on a _better_ government?
Because there are enough of us who either (1) are happy living on "entitlements" and so vote for whoever promises to protect those programs, (2) figure their best chance to make something lucrative of their life is to get a government job or get elected to office and make loads of money for doing little except telling other people how to live their lives, or (3) just don't give a flying flip and can't be bothered?
