Subject: Bitter battle over sugar findings

Ain't it sweet!
Don't hear much about this in North America!

It has been in the news here. I read something about it almost a month ago in a local paper (probably either the Times or NY Newsday. I also remember seeing a piece on it in either the Wall Street Journal or Washington Post.

While I do object to the corporate strong-arm tactics, It would have been more appropriate for the Scotsman to mention that the sugar industry's objections have merit on the basis of possible faulty or outdated source materials. IIRC, WHO's report ignored very thorough and well-researched findings by the US National Academy of Sciences which placed the limit on dietary sugars at 25%. WHO also cited much older scientific references, one of which was over 25 or 30 years outdated.

So, it's not as simple or sinister as the paper makes it seem. In fact, their deliberate omission of the questions that the Sugar Association has raised reveals their own bias.
