I think that it is amazing that some people have turned this tremendous
victory into a "defeat" because we haven't taken Baghdad yet.    This fast
plunge into Iraq was an excellent way of limiting Iraq's ability to engage
in acts of destruction against bridges, oilfields, and cities.   Now, we
can clean up the pockets of resistane from all directions and leave
Saddam's main force holed up in Baghdad.   


As for Western Iraq - that is a very good point.   The US took those
airfields with special forces on the first day of the war for a reason.
Although the media has suggested that it was to prevent Scud launches
against Israel, my understanding is that Scud's use mobile launchers,
making this a small side effect of taking the airfields in my mind.   I
definitely have to believe that a strike on Baghdad is being prepared from
the West.
