Support Our Troops - Cut Their Benefits

The GOP plans to cut $15 billion from veterans' programs as a thank you
for serving our country...

The House Budget Committee is set to vote on a resolution that will cut
$15 billion from veterans' benefit programs over the next ten years,
cutting into health, disability and survivor benefit packages for our
nation's veterans.
An article by Kate McLaughlin mentions that "nearly one-third of the Gulf
War veterans have submitted claims to the Veterans Affairs department for
disability" and we can only expect that number to rise when our boys and
girls start coming home from breathing depleted uranium tainted dust in
the deserts of Iraq. If they come home at all. And that's where the
survivors benefits should kick in. But the money just might not be there.

What is the purpose of cutting the benefits? To justify having money for
a tax cut for the rich? Or is it just a product of the complacent minds
of rich men on the Hill assuming that private insurance companies should
be able to pick up the slack? That government should provide the least
amount of healthcare and life insurance for its people? That's almost
socialist!

The problem occurs when we find veterans disabled from war who are unable
to find work that could offer them benefits such as private health and
life insurance. That's why these benefits are so important. And if you
look at the conditions inside some of these VA hospitals, you will
realize they don't need any more budget cuts.

It's interesting how these Republican/Conservatives flag-wave and talk
endlessly about how they support our troops, until they have to put their
money where their mouth is.
