Jeroen, have you ever been to Israel?

No -- and I am not planning on going there in the forseeable future either.

I asked for the following reason: I have it on good authority from people who have been (including my wife) that the original, established borders are completely indefensible. From what I understand, (and perhaps Andy Crystal could back me up on this?,) in many areas returning to the original borders would be the equivalent of drawing a line down the middle of the center of say, Paris, and handing the east section over to a group of people who have sworn to eradicate the people who live in the west section through genocide attacks and any means necessary.

Then why doesn't Israel go to the UN, plead their case there, and ask that their borders will be changed to more defensible ones?

As for your assertion that the IDF can capably defend Israel, this is obviously inaccurate, since the IDF has proven ineffective against terror attacks.

Apart from total annihiliation of the human race, nothing is 100% effective against terror attacks. You can turn all of Israel into one giant military base, enlist each and every Israeli citizen in the IDF, and build a 10 meter high concrete wall all the way around the country, and you'd still not be able to prevent terrorist attacks.
