Aussie city wants to 'defect' to France
An Australian city wants to defect to France in protest at their
Government's stance on Iraq.
Wollongong in New South Wales is to make an appeal to the Consul General
of France.
Local politicians have joined forces with unions and employers to make
the stand.
South Coast Labour Council secretary Arthur Rorris, said: "If the
Australian government won't represent the interests of Australians, how
embarrassing will it be if we go to another government and say 'our
government won't represent us, will you?'"
A Wollongong delegation, including Lord Mayor Alex Darling, will approach
the Consul General of France in Sydney next Tuesday, reports the news.com
website.
