Every science fiction show does this to one extent or another. It just makes things so much easier (and you can avoid going over the same language barrier crap, in every single episode). Star Treks excuse is the universal translator (enterprize has been pretty good about language issues tho). In Dr Who, the TARDIS is telepathic.
