Aiding Saddam was and is a mistake. You apparently agree. So, one might conclude opposing Saddam is a good idea. Most people, when they realize their mistakes, try to correct them. Russia and France are not. The US seems willing to try to right things. Your point is that the US isn't perfect? Fine, thanks for pointing out the obvious. But I don't see that as constructive or relevant to the topic.
