Diet, exercise and environment, along with stress management, are at least as useful as medication in controlling it. Predicting which medications, if any, will help a person seems to be impossible. My friend tried a dozen or more, none of which helped, several of which made things worse for him.
Amen to that. Watch out for health professionals who like to experiment with "stimulant cocktails". I was the victim of one, and it cost me dearly.
Also, watch out for those "professionals" who prescribe and prescribe, but pay little attention to your symptoms as a whole. Prescription medications are only *part* of the answer to treating ADD, and by no means should be the only treatment tool targeted by your professional.
One of my favorite books about ADD is "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Crazy or Stupid?"
Mine too!! One of the things I like about that book is how it debunks the low self-esteem problems which are comorbid with ADD.
