Reminds me of that program I saw the other day on the WW2 'war propaganda machine' in the US. When the US entered the war the women were encouraged to go out and 'do a men's job'. Then when the war ended they were told to go back to being a home maker because they were 'taking a men's job from him'.

Astonishingly, because the media machine was well organised and patriotism was very high back then, those women seemed to have swallow both (very contradictorial messages) in the name of patriotism. Looking back on it with emancipated eyes, one can only wonder how unquestioning or innocent they were back then. It just left a bit of unease because I couldn't help wondering if anything like that could happen again.
