I thought I was the only person alive that remembered ST:TMP's soundtrack as an outstanding piece of recorded work. I don't think Goldsmith has ever come close to reproducing his work on that first Trek film. After that, he's only done very commercial recordings. I love the soundtrack to Star Trek the Motion Picture (the best of the movies, btw, no matter what anybody else says). I also thought I was the only person alive left that really liked ST:TMP as well. It was the only Trek film that boasted Gene Rodenberry's work as ExecProducer, and you can tell it has his "touch", right? This was a real scifi thriller which transpires a great sense of wonder and discovery. Too bad it went unappreciated. I think the latest release of the movie in DVD with the special fx re-shot did the movie justice.
(I'm also really happy to see the Enterprise leave drydock without having to see the clamps holding the mocel under it. They *finally* removed that horrible faux-pas from the released version of the film).
Cosmos!!! That's one I haven't really heard in a while. Cosmos, as a TV show, inspired me and turned me on into science when it came out. I was fortunate to get a copy of the soundtrack at the time (early to mid-80's), and I made it a point to hawk it to all my schoolmates. This one surely brings back memories.(may I count the sountrack to the Cosmos miniseries?), Queen's Flash Gordon and Highlander stuff.
