Well, Star Wars is the soundtrack I've loved for the longest period of time, certainly, though Fiddler on the Roof gives it a run for its money even though it's not in the category you specified (I don't even own it anymore, but my memories of listening over and over to the double LP as a kid are among my favorite). If I think of moments of soundtracks that jump out at me, currently my favorite has to be the cue that accompanies the fight between Gandalf and the Balrog on LotR:TT. (I quite like Gollum's song, too, and pretty much all the bits in between.) Plus the Hobbity bits from LotR:FotR (and the rest of the bits; ok I'm hooked). I love the soundtrack to Star Trek the Motion Picture (the best of the movies, btw, no matter what anybody else says). Especially the prelude at the beginning, where Ilya's theme plays gently over a rushing star field. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is also wonderful. I don't own the soundtrack, but when I started thinking of great soundtracks Yo-Yo Ma's cello work immediately leapt to mind. I understand there's a really annoying pop song at the end of the CD, though. Conan the Barbarian, Blade Runner (may I count the sountrack to the Cosmos miniseries?), Queen's Flash Gordon and Highlander stuff. Blade's theme from Blade II is pretty awesome; it has that "I'm badder than Spider-Man, James Bond, and Superfly all rolled into one" kind of feel. Mustn't forget Orbital's Dr. Who theme. Songs in the Key of X, while not actually an X-files soundtrack per se, is a great compilation. 10,000 Airplanes on the Roof, by Phillip Glass. The soundtrack loses a little something without the accompanying show, but because it evokes my memories of the show so well, it rocks. >From Dusk Till Dawn. Great assortment of tunes.
