A bit of
artistic license.

Now, you reminded me of something. :)

I found this VERY annoying in SpiderMan. I think I saw the same type of faux-pas in the DD trailers.

One can't help but notice that most of the special fx shots are done at night sequences. (Isn't it convenient that superheroes must do the bulk of their work after 6:00pm? <g>). The reasons for this are obvious: low lighting gives room for use of wires, etc. that can be masked later on in post-prod.

However, nowadays movies like SM and DD use CGI for most of their special fx. In SpiderMan, on sequences like the one where Spidey is bravely fighting against three thugs in an alley, or on most of the scenes where Spidey swinging across the landscape, you can CLEARLY tell that it's a CGI rendition of DD of Spidey. Until he lands, that is. Then, it's a close-up shot of McGuire, who of course doesn't sweat. (I call that "James Bond pores"). :)

Why? The physics of movements involved are not consistent to the mass and weight of the object in movement. In the case of SpiderMan, he may have "spider powers", but he's still a man. Therefore, he has to swing between buildings like a 150 pound dude. (Guesstimate weight of Tobey).

So, what you end up watching screen, looks more like something out of a PlayStation game.

I noticed the same type of "error" on the previews, where you can catch a glimpse of DD dashing through the air. That takes away my "willingful suspension of disbelief" for what I'm watching on screen. I'm not expert in CGI, but why on Earth don't they notice how crummy those sequences look?

I may be nitpicking, but hey, they made really cool sfx movies before CGI characters were introduced. And they always found a way to make them look believable...
