I was under the impression that cyanide and sarin could be detected by smell in trace amounts without causing harm. For instance, if a room containing the gas (and presumably victims) were vented, a slight odor would remain?
Does anyone know if this is true?

Depending on how long the victims had been victims, the odor in the room might be anything but "slight."

Who guides the stars with steadfast law,
Whose least creation fills with awe,
O grant thy mercy and thy grace,
To those who venture into space.
