Saw a speech by, IIRC, Schroeder recently. He mentioned (paraphrasing) that Germany is opposed against war against Iraq, because the German people, having been in the center of two world wars, realise that going to war is never the solution to a problem.In particular, I wonder how this will influence our view of Germany. If there is any country that should be most enthusiastic for freeing people from a genocidal dictator, it is Germany.
Interesting documentary on Dutch television last week. It showed the business relations that Germany and France had with Iraq. It also mentioned that Iraq had been provided with a lot of material for making biological weapons. It also mentioned which country had sold it to them -- the good old US of A...Instead of that, though, we see Germany refusing to help under _any_ circumstances, _and_ what evidence we have suggests that German companies (with the assistance, quite possibly of the German government) were the most active ones in the world in helping to violate the sanctions.
