one problem I have, I don't like cars behind me at night in low traffic and
non lighted areas. I hate having to adjust all my mirrors just because a
car is following me, especially in the truck where I can't easily adjust
them. I've slowed down to 40 MPH on interstates just to get another car to
finally pass me. It's usually the same scenario: I'll be doing 64 or 74 and
pass a car going 5 MPH less. They must think I have a radar detector so
they will speed up to follow me. Then I slow down because they get right on
my six. They will finally pass me then they only go the same slower speed
and I eventually pass them again. I've gotten off of exits and sat for a
few minutes just to get separation from someone like that. I used to do a
lot of night driving.

The other side: a car was following me way too closely one night about 3 am
on a two lane road. I was going less than the speed limit because I didn't
know the road well, it was curvy, and there were animals out. For each
passing zone I slowed down to 10-15MPH below the speed limit, and then
would speed up in non passing lanes. This went on for 10 minutes. Finally I
put on my turn signal and turned onto another road. The car put his lights
on, it was a cop! He said he pulled me over because I was slowing down and
speeding up! He thought I was drinking and wanted to do a field sobriety
test. I told him to get bent and asked for his card, I told him I was going
to report him for HIS driving. He gave me his card and apologized. I said I
was sorry too, let him test me, and we went our separate ways. I had a
friend with me, she was drunk and passed out in the passenger seat so the
car probably did smell of alcohol. She never woke up until we got home, 45
minutes later. She didn't believe me that I was pulled over until I showed
her the card.

I follow the same advice (slow down to make them pass) and have had the same result on a couple of occasions . . .

(Of course in Utah I can show them my temple recommend . . . )
