It's Joss Whedon's new series - SF on the surface, but stuffed full of Western-ey Goodness.
Well written, and the characters acted sensibly, for once. Like B5, it's about human nature. Set about 500 years forward, after a period of terraforming and expansion has spread humanity out across the galaxy. Technology is relatively advanced, but it's made clear in the intro that the frontier, which is where "Firefly" is set, relies on a lot of primitive technology when it's too difficult to get the latest tech. Makes for an interesting blend of western styles/memes, combined with interesting-looking technology that isn't too obtrusive. SPOILERS BELOW CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED At the end, when the captain kicked the thug into the engine intake, I looked at my wife and said, "Hey! They're acting just like the characters in my old Traveller game!" Very amusing, and damned if it didn't make sense. Adam C.
