But why not take an optimistic view here?

50 years ago, the United States faced an enemy with an army of fanatics
following a strange religion, living in a country ruled by an dictator, and
many of whom were willing to sacrifice their lives in suicide missions in
order to afflict damage against us.

In retaliation, we dropped a weapon of nearly unspeakable proportions on
them and occupied their country for many years.

Today, Japan is one of our closest allies.

The world is a better place because the US occupied Japan, and it will be a
much better place after we occupy Iraq.
