When I get my Gonset G-66B working well - recapped, aligned, good tubes, etc ... would a pre-amp, e.g. Ameco PCL-P (2 x 6DS4 nuvistors cascoded) add anything other than amplified atmospheric noise?
I'm guessing that the G-66B was designed to anticipate a poor quality mobile antenna and therefore has lots of gain built in. True?
