Hello All,
Picked up a bag of tubes from an estate and am in the process of testing them.
Right now I am having issues with some 2C51 / 5670 / WE396A tubes. Hopefully
someone out there has some experience with these and can provide some
suggestions.
First, I see the following setups in the TV-7 manual for both the 2C51 and
WE396 tubes:
(In order: Filament, Selectors, bias, Shunt, Range, Press, Minimum Value)
Sec 1: 6.3 KR7-6082 17 ---- D 3 26
Sec 2: 6.3 KR3-4028 17 ---- D 3 26
For the 5670 tube I see:
Sec 1: 6.3 KR7-6082 17 ---- D 3 26
Sec 2: 6.3 KR3-4020 17 ---- D 3 26
The 5670 is slightly different on the setup for section 2.
When I test section 1, no problem. Check line voltage, check shorts, then test
(press button 3).
The problem occurs when I test section 2: Neon short indicator lights up at
position #4 for every tube I have. I have tested both WE396 and GE 5670 tubes
and they all show the same issue.
My question to the group: Is there an addendum somewhere with a different
setting for section 2? The settings I use come from TB 11-6625-274-12/1, dated
January, 1962. I have poked around the web and have not found any different
documents with settings for these tubes.
Right now my alternatives are to test the tubes on a different tester, but I
have heard all sorts of comments through the years that different testers can
have quite different readings. I would prefer to stick with the TV-7, but I do
have a Heath TT-1, Triplett 3444-A, and a Hickok 605A. Would one of those be
preferred above the others?
Thanks in advance for all of your help.
Best Regards,
William
