I attended the play, “Man of Constant Sorrow:  The Story of Ralph and Carter Stanley,” on Thursday, October 26, at the Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia.  I thought the production was outstanding!  The actors could really play and sing.

The play includes a rendition of “Mary, Merry Christmas,” Carter’s last song.  Carter wrote this as a tribute to his wife while he was on his death bed.  I had never heard the song before.  Ralph II sings this on his CD, “Listen to My Hammer Ring,” which I plan to buy.  Have the Clinch Mountain Boys ever recorded or performed this song?   I'll see Ralph Stanley at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, on December 16, and would like to request this song.
