I attended the play, “Man of Constant Sorrow: The Story of Ralph and Carter Stanley,”
on Thursday, October 26, at the Barns at Wolf Trap in The play includes a rendition of “Mary,
Merry Christmas,” Carter’s last song.
Carter wrote this as a tribute to his wife while he was on his death
bed. I had never heard the song
before. Ralph II sings this on his
CD, “Listen to My Hammer
Ring,” which I plan to buy. Have
the Clinch Mountain Boys ever recorded or performed this song? I'll see Ralph Stanley at the
