Mr. Holman -
I am assured that the majority of people who
participate in this forum have never seen my name appear, although I have been a
participant since its beginning. That is because I choose not to write a
lot in this type of setting. I, like all, have my opinions and I only
express them when the notion strikes or when it is really needed. This is
one of those times. I am an old fashion Hillbilly raised in Southwest
Virginia and I dearly and deeply love the music and history involved in the
music made by Carter and Ralph Stanley. I know tons about these gentlemen
and the music they created. To say I am a HUGE fan would be an
understatement. I also know the well from which they draw from to express
their experiences, as I am a product of the same geographic location and my
family was basically raised in the same manner. My great-uncle, Charlie,
and Carter Stanley were dear friends. I like to think that the Stanley
Brothers music portrays a heritage and history that is exclusive to my part of
the world and those who desire this medium are welcome to experience its
wondrous theme - no matter where you are from or where you are going. I do
not, however, feel as if there is room for any type of partiality or selfishness
of view. That kind of attitude does not exist in the music and should
never exist in its discussion. Therefore, I wish to apologize to you for
any statements made by any follower of the Stanley Brothers music. The
very last thing that should happen is for this beautiful means of _expression_ to
be perverted into a selfish argument. I hate to consider that this
forum, or any that represents the heritage that I call my own, would stand for
anything less than an inviting, friendly, and neighborly atmosphere. So,
please stay! Read every word and experience those things that are relevant
to this music and all that it stands for and ignore those things that are
outside these lines. Whatever you want to know about this music -
ask. Whatever opinion you have - express it. It is not you, Mr.
Holman, who is at fault. It is those who chose their own interests through
arrogance over the nature and purpose of this forum. That is not the
Hillbilly way of doing things! Thank you for your time and
God bless!
Regards -
Chuck Sullins, VA
