Funny you all should bring that up. I actually have old, silent footage of
the "Hills of Home" gathering back in the early 70's. It shows Ralph decked
out in cap and gown to recieve his honorary degree.
What do you call those projection type cameras? I can't recall, but my mom
and dad had one and got a lot of good footage from that years festival. The
only bad thing is that theres no sound. There is also some good footage of
the band including Curly Ray Cline. My dad purchased a solo album of
Curly's around this same time at some point that we still have. Cant recall
the name of the album off hand, i think its "Pike County Jail". But it's
endorsed with Curly's autograph on the front. Seems to be a rarity since I
don't know anyone else who has one or who even really knows that Curly had a
solo record around that time.
For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, I recommend watching the documentary
entitled "High lonesome". It's been out for some time i guess, but I just
watched it this past weekend for the first time and it was excellent.
There's alot of old footage of Ralph, and even some of Carter, and even
interviews with Ralph in what appears to be the mid 1980's. This film is a
must watch for all bluegrass fans.

In response to a question earlier today, I think Ralph Stanley has an
honorary doctorate from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate,
Tennessee.
