Tim,
What a nightmare. What day are you arriving in Nashville? Then are
you planning to take a bus to Abingdon? I am hoping someone who lives in
Nashville or Abingdon (preferably Nashville) will contact you and chauffeur
you all the way.
I would like to help. All I can say it I am leaving Boston on May
19. I am figuring it will take me 2 days to drive down. (but then, who
knows just how many hours it will actually take.?) My wish is to get to the
Festival a couple of days early, hopefully by May 21. At some point I expect
to go through Abingdon (for a bit on Main St. to connect to Highway 58 and
West Alternate 58 as per the published directions from Roanoke. I am a
seasoned driver to fairly distant points, but when going to BG festivals I
have no one to worry about but myself and no worries about messing up
somebody else's plans or timing even if I run late. I have never been to
that area of VA.
This is all pretty uncertain timing. I do know I want to drive on
the winding roads only during daylight for sure. With determination I think
it would be possible for me to meet up with you. It is perhaps nuts, but
not impossible. (I have a cell phone with a Boston based # that I will be
carrying for any emergency. I need to check to learn if it will work so far
from home.) If you should proceed to Abingdon will you be somewhere with a
phone # where you could be reached by a roving rambler? (this is not to
presume you have these answers yet.)
If you do not get a sane offer that works smoothly, feel free to
contact me for more figuring. The fact you were coming so far is an
indication you must be a rabid bluegrass fan. I hope you do make it to the
Festival. I can't imagine tackling trying to attend without driving-mainly
since that's what most everyone does. But then, people need to think outside
the box…..
