If I could have only one Stanley CD or tape, it would be Stanley Series
Vol. 3, No. 4, performed live by
the brothers at New River Ranch, Rising Sun, Maryland, 1958. It is
available from Copper Creek Records in
Roanoke, Virginia. It has my favorite rendition of Ralph Stanley's, "Little
Birdie," clawhammer style. Pete Kuykendahl was playing fiddle for them that
day and was wonderful. It seemed that the band simply could not put a foot
wrong, as happens sometimes in a live performance.

I think, "Long Journey Home," is one of the best Stanley songs, but I have
been unable to find it on CD or tape.

The song being discussed sounds so similar to a rendition by Carter Stanley
of "I Got a Pig," which goes, " I got a pig at home in a pen, corn to feed
him on. All I need's a pretty little girl to feed him when I'm gone."
I wonder if this is the same song?
