Latest published version doesn't include <string> as a valid syntax for
custom property registration: (
https://www.w3.org/TR/css-properties-values-api-1/#supported-names), but I
also found a PR with the spec change that adds <string> syntax support for
registered custom properties (
https://github.com/w3c/css-houdini-drafts/pull/1104). Will this work?
