Can't confirm this not having experienced it myself.  A while back I read
about one flavor of linux that got steam working on it with a screen
reader.  stormdragon was interested to know how that was being done since
he is interested in making that work on the raspberry pi distribution he
offers called stormux.  I don't know if he ever learned how that was done.
The flavor of linux is called void.
