It is not required to turn off your anti virus before defragmenting a system. I don't know if it was ever required in the past but it certainly is not now. David Ferrin [email protected] I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I'll probably screw that one up too. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alan Dicey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 16, 2011 3:58 PM Subject: [Blind-Computing] To Defrag, do I have to turn Anti Virus off?
Dear Friends, It has been a while since I defragged my "Systems Drive", I only use 10 GB of the 80 GB, because I have all my data files on external drives, so do not do this very often. But I have always turned my anti virus program off before doing a Defrag. Does one still have to do this? Or have things changed? I have always turned my anti virus program off when doing a Defrag, since I started using Windows in 1999. I am using XP-Home with my Dell computer. Thanks for any comments!
