The 1st configuration of which u should be aware is security. By
default, most wireless routers are configured as 'open', which equates
to free internet for all. It's a security hole bigger than the Grand
Canyon, & needs to be closed. If your devices support it, wp2 is the
preferred method.

The 2nd thing of which u need to be cognisant is something called the
SSID. These usually by default consist of the router's brand, (which u
didn't give, btw). Change the SSID broadcast name & also the default
passwords, using upper & lowercase letters, numbers, & punctuation
signs.

U may also wish to change the IP address on which the router operates,
though since this is a private address, that concern is not so glaring
as the other 2 just mentioned.

All these changes can be made by plugging your pc into the router b4
ever putting it online, & is the method of choice for this kind of
configuring.

U ask for specific instructions--hardly possible since u don't provide
brand name, model number, etc. of the router u have.
