No.
If you want to use Firefox (or even any other browser) to capture a download
instead of your download manager, just go to the download manager's options
(in Free Download Manager, it should be "Monitoring" tab) and uncheck your
browser from the list of browsers to be intercepted.
Personally, I find using a download manager better than using a browser
because I have a lot of room to tweak my downloads. For instance, placing
downloads in different folders based on their extensions and not let them
all lumped up in one folder. Just my opinion and a matter of personal
preference. So based on this, I think you should continue using your
download manager: taking Free Download Manager and Internet Download Manager
as examples, you will see that they are powerful enough to manage video
downloads from YOUTube, download whole sites, do batch downloads from a
site, useful site explorer, schedule your downloads, download torrents from
p2p portals, etc. FDM can even do automatic conversions of video files to
proprietary ones based on your PC. All this power is not found in Firefox
downloader. I can state a lot of other reasons, but I trust that since you
are using FDM, you know its other advantages. So don't uninstall your
download manager for now.
If you have to uninstall your old free download manager, it should be to
upgrade to the latest one, or even use another download manager with more
features, not to mention bells and whistles.

you can use firefox to download anything, so long as you don't have any
download manager installed in firefox. the download file dialoguebox pop
ups
the minute you press enter on a link & it automatically downloads with
the
in built download manager. & I must say, it is a pretty powerful dlm,
with
things like resume support & so on!
