A point of view worth studying further. I will be doing a search for

Many former AVG users like myself have switched to MSE rather than deal with
AVG's annoying glitches.  So there are fewer AVG users on this list to share
experiences with.  Besides, according to recent comparison tests, AVG is no
better at virus detection than MSE.  If you really need the extra features
that the paid version of AVG offers, then by all means stick with it.  But
for the rest of us, who just need basic real-time protection, MSE is a
better alternative.
