David, I found the start menu in the control panel and entered it but entering the classic view produced lists of things I wasn't sure about. I checked some and succeeded only in making the start menu worse than it was. In fact, I think I'm lucky to have been able to return to the start menu rather than the classic view. Still no search, etc. Thanks for trying. I'll take another shot at this tomorrow. marilyn
