transferring files via the |USB cable would be very slow so using a card reader to copy the files off your SD card is definitely worth while.
In theory the quickest way to copy the files is to select the folders all at once and transfer them using copy and paste. In practice things depend on the performance of your friend's computer . If it is relatively underpowered and has been known to crash after intensive disc activity then it might be better to transfer the files across in approx 1 gb batches.
