This is a known bug but I can't reproduce it.
A quick fix is to edit "~/.config/backintime/config" and remove the 
gnome.last_path line.
Before removing it please copy the line to this bug.

Today I open BiT for 2 or 3 times, after that, it refuses to open. Below 
there's a copy of the error I'm getting:
