Hello Everyone,

The 2025-2025 Winter Listing season finished on February 28, 2026. For the
2025-2026 winter season, 202 species were reported in Ontario. This species
total is six species lower than the 19-year average of 208. The median
value is 203 for those 19 years. The highest year was 2021-2022, with 229

Since my last update to Ontbirds on January 31, new species added are:

   - Mountain Bluebird found by Matthew Toby in Northumberland
   - Baltimore Oriole, also in Northumberland, at a private residence
   - Rose-breasted Grosbeak found by an anonymous source in Muskoka

A roll call of rare birds seen this winter season includes:

   - Townsend's Warbler (seen twice in the last 19 seasons);
   - Bay-breasted Warbler (4/19)
   - Western Tanager (3/19)
   - Glacous-winged Gull (4/19)

As always, please send me an email if you know of a sighting of a
missing species observed between December 1, 2025 and February 28,
2026 or if you see any errors in the spreadsheet either from this
winter or from winters past.

I am looking forward to spring. The red-wing blackbirds are starting
to come back.
