Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 14:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours

Official Counter: Tom Bolohan

Observers: Dave Brown, Mac McAlpine, Matt Oswald, Su Ross-Redmond,
                  Tom Stewart

Visitors:
A small number of visitors again today hoping for a good flight given the
nice weather and wind direction. Thanks to Tom B, Tom S, Mac, Matt and Su
for getting today's count done.

Weather:
Beautiful blue skies with lots of sunshine... very enjoyable weather but
NOT great for hawk watching! Spotting birds was nearly impossible against
the blue and it only got worse as they climbed higher and higher through
the day. No clouds formed at all other than far south across the lake.
Temps were cooler starting at just 2C and getting to a comfortable high of
15C. Pressure was again fairly steady for the day. Obviously there were
decent thermal updrafts given how much altitude the birds were achieving.

Raptor Observations:
An OK flight today (2680) but likely sadly undercounted given the
challenging viewing conditions. I suspect we missed many migrants passing
over us in the pure blue and very high. The TVs helped us focus in as they
passed over and we'd often then spot other species flying along with them.
The ONLY Golden Eagle observed today (a big thanks to Tom S for spotting
this bird) went over in the stratosphere right above the viewing platform.
Some good kettles of TVs (2482) with other species thrown in. A bit more
of a push of Redtails (105) and Red-shoulders (7) and some nice (and close)
Northern Harriers (23) and Sharpies (48).

Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of smaller birds on the move as well today. See the eBird checklist
at the following link:

Monarch count: 3
