Ottawa/Gatineau: recent sightings to Sep 25 , 2025 Ottawa Field Naturalists' Club (OFNC) Ottawa/Gatineau (50 Km radius from Parliament Hill) E. Ontario, W. Quebec Compiler: Derek Dunnett at [email protected]
Species of the week would have been the early Black-backed Woodpecker, with multiple birds. But a good fallout of passerines with Thursday's rains drooped a Yellow-throated warbler! Otherwise, a normal late Sept with trees dripping butterbutts and Cackling Geese hiding in any old large raft of geese. Time to get those Orange-crowned Warbler and Gray-cheeked Thrush ticks for the year. Trumpeter Swan (1) Sep 20, Carp River southeast of Carp, Ottawa. Baird's Sandpiper (1) Sep 23, Andrew Haydon Park east (formerly Ottawa Beach), Ottawa. Excellent shorebird habitat has encouraged many species to congregate here over the last month. Western Sandpiper (1) Sep 2-4, Andrew Haydon Park east (formerly Ottawa Beach), Ottawa. Not id'ed until later. Double checked those peeps! Black-backed Woodpecker (2) Sep 22-25, Pinhey Sand Dunes, Ottawa. Male and female. (1) Sep24, Kars, Ottawa. (1) Sep 16, Britannia CA--Woods, Ottawa. Sep 15, Petrie Island, Ottawa.
