*North Bay Christmas Bird Count, December 14, 2024 - Preliminary Results* *Most Abundant Birds Observed: American C*rows, Commin Ravens, and Black-capped Chickadees were abundant; Hairy Woodpeckers and White-Breasted Nuthatches frequent; many Mallards; Black Duck, Common Goldeneye, Hooded and Common Mergansers were observed in limited open waters; Ruffed Grouse were well counted; a number of American Tree Sparrows remaining and Goldfinch numerous *Specialty Birds Observed: *1 Cooper's Hawk; 1 Rough-Legged Hawk; 1 Red-Tailed Hawk; 2 Red-Bellied Woodpeckers; 2 Northern Shrike; 1 Canada Jay; 1 White-Throated Sparrow and 2 Northern Cardinals - wintering comfortably near feeders; 3 Juncos; 5 Snow Buntings; 2 Grackles; 10 Pine Siskins noticed at feeders *High Count: *26 Wild Turkeys and 25 Bald Eagles are all time high counts; 1 reluctant Belted Kingfisher ties last year’s high count *Misses and Poorly Represented:* Kinglets - 0; Robins - 0; Purple Finch - 0; Crossbills - 0; Redpolls - 0 *Count Week Species: *Barred and Snowy Owls *Totals: *40 species and over 3400 individuals Lori Anderson, Compiler -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
