Thanks to Tom B, Mac M, Ken W and Michele C for doing today's count. Weather: Today ended up being a bit better for raptor migration than expected with an early overcast breaking out to almost clear skies before filling in again for a while then breaking out once more at the end of the day. Winds were favourable to start the day moderate from the NE but quickly switched to SW around midday. Temps were pretty steady for the day hovering around 7C to 9C. Pressure was on the rise through the day. Raptor Observations: A much better flight today than counters had expected with a total of 858 birds tallied. The bulk of this count was TVs (501) but there were decent numbers of Redtails (219) and Red-shoulders (29). The biggest surprise for the day was how many Golden Eagles (31) passed through. There were other species on the move as well including Bald Eagles (28), N. Harriers (21), Sharpies (13) and Cooper's Hawks (11) and finally Rough-legged Hawks (5) Non-raptor Observations: None reported for today. Predictions: Winds are forecast to be less than favourable from ESE to SE which will push the birds inland away from the Lake Erie shore line. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown (ez.raptor1...@gmail.com) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: https://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 -- Ontbirds and Birdnews are moderated email Listservs provided by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) as a service to all birders in Ontario.
